Americans quibble while the holy land burns
What will it take for right wing media hosts to care about what is important?
I just read a Washington Post story about the attacks against Artemis Langford, a trans woman with autism who joined a sorority at the University of Wyoming only to be dragged into the national spotlight by pundits with nothing better to do then launch hateful rhetoric at other people’s children. It isn’t like there is a shortage of actual news to cover, but then again, when will there be another opportunity to demonstrate transphobia, fat phobia and ableism all directed at one individual? Artemis is described as not making enough of an effort to appear female because she is tall, fat, and isn’t spackling her face the way people imagine sorority sisters should.
Grown up mean girls with names that are just another spelling of Megan were all too happy to attack this 21 year old woman while they should be talking about what an embarrassment it is that the party they belong to would rather hold a dick wagging contest in the House than discuss aid to Israel.
Langford was sued by seven of her sorority sisters, a suit that the courts dismissed. If anyone should sue anyone, it should be Langford suing the sorority for lying about being a safe and inclusive environment, but then again, I am biased. I have always seen fraternities and sororities as only being safe spaces for the most privileged of students. I do not see these organizations as representing anything positive about higher education; if anything, they have fueled the criticism launched against institutions of higher education.
I can freely admit that I can see both sides of the debate over trans women and trans girls competing against biological women and girls in sports. I can see both sides, but I still think it is a frivolous issue to take up while our world is on fire. Is it getting so difficult to keep people divided that right wingers must keep inventing ridiculous crises to divert attention from the fact that climate change has wrought massive devastation, T.rump is sympathizing with Islamic terrorists, and Republicans in congress are nothing more than infighting clowns at this point? How pathetic.
How much of a failure of a species do humans have to be to not care about whether we survive or not? Oh to live in a post-nonsense world where people collaborate to solve real problems!
Hear! Hear! So true! This is why the US struggles to solve the basic problems that other first world (if you call the US a first world country) countries have solved ages ago. The political right has made it their strategy to never operate in good faith. They're not actually bothered by trans people. They are trying to create another common enemy, so they can justify their own awful their behavior. That's what they did with abortion, and now this is what they're trying to do with trans rights, gay rights, etc.
