I am horrible about taking picture of art projects, and I give most of my work away as gifts. I am now making an effort to take pictures instead of waiting on family to get photographs to me.
I became a hooker during the pandemic… a locker hooker that is. This is a form of rug hooking that became popular in 1940s Britain and the U.S., but is somewhat of a lost art these days.
The two pieces featured here were done by drawing a picture with Sharpies on burlap, and then using cruelty-free wool (roving and strips of fabric) with cotton yarn as a locking medium.
I just completed the cardinal today and will likely enter this into a garden-themed exhibit at the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center. The prairie chicken was a piece I donated to be sold at this year’s Prairie Chicken Festival, a local event that raises money for conservation of these birds. Creating art for donation is the main way I volunteer these days.
Thank you!
Wow, these are really beautiful. This is a great way to volunteer. What is cruelty-free wool? Wool makes me itch, and I probably won't need to stay that warm in California, anyway, but I'm curious.
