Anhedonia. It is a side effect of Ozempic, but what is it? The lack of finding joy in the things you once enjoyed, such as food. But Ozempic doesn’t only make food unenjoyable. Just look at when Trump said he couldn’t understand what point Biden was trying to make (sadly, he wasn’t alone on that one); where was that smirk that normally accompanies his owning the libs? The only thing Trump ever seemed to enjoy was being an asshole, and he can’t even enjoy that anymore.
That made him seem less petty than usual in his debate performance, but it is especially dangerous for all the rest of us. When wealthy men fail at happiness, others are made to suffer. It is a pattern we see with other wealthy men too, and has been further exacerbated by weight loss drugs. Just look at Elon Musk.
There were so many missed opportunities in last night’s debate, but none worse than those involving Covid. Biden just doesn’t want to talk about it, but he should. For Trump to talk about his record on Covid was an odd sort of returning to the crime. He is the one who implemented the shut downs that killed jobs and did little to save lives. If Trump had paid an American company to ramp up mask production in those early days, the death toll probably wouldn’t have been so high.
The facts may have been on Biden’s side, but his performance wasn’t. It would have been better if he would’ve sent in his rescue dog as a pinch hitter!
I genuinely like Joe Biden. I actually think he has been the best president of my lifetime. But last night’s poor debate performance has me hoping that the Dems will do the unprecedented thing and select a different candidate at their convention. It might be the only thing that can save us from devolving into authoritarian rule. I know people will ask “who?” I think Gretchen Whitmer would be the safe choice. She even has the support of all the leftist antisemites in the state she governs without being one herself.
Nothing would throw the Trump campaign for a loop like switching candidates at this late stage in the game. I realize that hardly anyone bases their decision of who to vote for on debate performance. Many candidates who have lost debates go on to win the presidency. But the biggest issue people have with Biden is his age, and it was a little too evident last night as he lost his train of thought again and again. Painful doesn’t even begin to cover it. I am terrified that Trump will win. I don’t think he will totally get rid of Social Security and Medicare, but I think he will try to kick people out of the safety net if they are not part of his cult. I was already doxxed once by a Trump supporter on Facebook. Thankfully, we have people in charge of these programs who look at disability and not political affiliation when deciding eligibility. I am not certain that would continue to be the case if Trump were to get elected again. Just look at what Louis DeJoy’s appointment has done to the U.S. Postal Service.
“It just isn’t done” is not a good enough reason for Democrats to not pick a different candidate. The same thing could be said for someone who lost a presidential election to run again, but that is what Trump is doing. The old rules don’t apply. We need to make a change.
This election year really makes me wish I could get drunk. I can’t drink alcohol because of my medications, and I normally don’t miss it, but then last night happened. Just this week, I was contacted by someone running for the 3rd Congressional District. They wanted me to talk trash about Katrina Shankland, who is also running for that seat. Shankland is my nemesis, and still I am voting for her. I told others to vote for her as well. I sincerely believe that she is the candidate who could beat the deranged Derrick Van Orden, a man who got drunk and harassed senate pages. A man who made an ass of himself at this year’s State of the Union and had to be escorted out. An insurrectionist. So yeah, endorsing someone I agree with on policy but have a strong personal dislike for is absolutely what I must do if it means getting rid of this embarrassment to my state. Sometimes politics requires difficult decisions and uncomfortable alliances. If there is one character I can relate to, it is Hughie Campbell on this Season of The Boys. His alliance with A-Train reflects the situation I am in. Let’s not sacrifice the good for the perfect. This is not the time for perfect. We face too dangerous an enemy for that.
I wish we could have a candidate that more people had faith in. I'd vote for Gretchen Whitmer, and I hadn't even heard of her before you mentioned her. I worry, though, that Americans just won't vote for a woman. I think that's why we ended up in this mess in the first place. Our culture is just too sexist.
Don't forget that CNN was complicit in this debacle also. Worst moderation EVER.
